    COMMA is a project management system for publishers. It covers every management aspect, from when the project is in its infancy – until after its publication. The system ensures all parties involved are updated on progression and gives an overview of all active projects. COMMA offers necessary support and information to authors, including the coaching of authors making their literary debut. The system offers integrated support for salespeople and contains automated functions for generating press-releases, contracts, as well as gathering quotes from printing houses. Calculating royalty and sending sales and royalty reports is another essential part of the system.

About Us

Commentum Forlag was established in 2000 and is currently staffed by 15 skilled employees. It is a member of the publishing-group Forlagshuset Vest, which annually publishes over a hundred titles. We have offered printing and graphic services to the private industry, as well as web-based technology, since the company was founded. Our extensive experience within the industry has been an invaluable foundation for the development of the project management tool COMMA.

COMMA is designed to create a structured workflow with the purpose of saving time and resources. The most important aspect is that the system also has a promotional function, and through that helps generate additional income for the publisher:

Features

Publishers

The system offers a precise overview of all active projects, with progress-indicators and easy-to-use search functions. Projects have an integrated function to export the lists to Excel.

Workflow

Employees are assigned pre-defined tasks based on the type of project and their role within the publisher (editor, copy-writer, PR, graphic designer, etc) (this also includes external contributors and consultants). This allows the staff to have a clear view of tasks that need to be completed. The system automatically sends out reminders when tasks are nearing their deadline.

Projects

All metadata concerning the books and authors are stored in one database and is extensively used throughout the system; price quotation for printing houses, generating press releases and information for bookstores, calculating royalty, search/cross-search functionality, and through your own websites (optional), etc.

ISBN

Automatic assignment of ISBN to projects helps totally avoid any ISBN-related errors.

Generating contracts

Generate contracts and agreements that are ready for signing in less than 10 seconds with just a click of a button. The contracts are automatically made available for both staff and the author for easy review.

Price quotes

Quotes to one or more printing houses can be sent on the fly. The quotes are available for easy review when comparing the offers.

Calculating royalty

Sales figures are exported through Excel (or a custom API (additional feature)) and royalty is then calculated in seconds. The system sends royalty reports either through print or an e-mail to the author.

Economy

The system supports financial management on a project to project basis, and shows cost and income. Easy-to-manage project budgeting.

Press releases and information for bookstores and libraries

Generates releases with logo and cover art are generated within seconds and can be sent either directly through the system, or downloaded to the computer and distributed through other means.

Notifications

The backbone of the flow of information is the message database, where a number of pre-defined messages are automatically sent to anyone involved with the project, including authors.

Orders

The author can input orders and pre-orders for the book. The orders are forwarded to the publisher’s sales office.

Webshop

COMMA can link up with the publisher’s online shop. All relevant information and data is imported automatically from COMMA.

Online reporting

An advanced module for reporting and analysis allows for full access at any time and location.

Online Collaboration

Set up online and real time collaboration between authors, illustrators, translators, agents, editors, proofreaders, sales managers, graphic designers, PR managers and many others involved in publishing process.
